How does it work?

A water sensor typically comprises of two metal rods and a probe that touches the ground. When the rods come in contact with water, an electrical charge is created which signals the alarm to go off. With water sensor alarms, you don't have to worry about false alarms.

There are two main types of water alarm systems – active and passive detectors. Passive water alarm systems are designed to simply detect the presence of water before raising the alarm. On the other hand, active water alarm systems can turn off the water supply in the event of a leak or flooding.

• Under the roof
• Near the dishwasher

Water sensors can be wireless or wired. You can also connect water sensors to an already-installed home security system. Some water sensors use state-of-the-art technology to alert homeowners via email or text message every time the alarm is triggered. There are many different manufacturers of water alarm sensors.
